Building a seamless speciality leasing experience

Citycon's 32 mixed-use, necessity-based centres are located in the major cities in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Estonia, serving millions of people each year. Citycon’s Spotlight offers flexible retail spaces in Nordic and Baltic centres.

Citycon is a forerunner in speciality leasing with their new Spotlight brand. We had the privilege of building Spotlight’s website and customer portal for a seamless digital leasing experience.

Key objectives

Citycon recently launched a new brand, Spotlight, that serves speciality leasing customers. It allows businesses to lease pop-ups, audio solutions, or promotion spots in its 32 shopping centres around the Nordics.

We got to support the launch of the new innovative business by building the website and customer portal that allow companies to lease Citycon’s solutions seamlessly online. As the target customers include small and mid-size businesses, it was important for Citycon to be able to provide an excellent digital customer experience and smooth self-service capabilities, helping them make an easy market entry with style in their shopping centres.

Our approach

Citycon had a clear vision and a dashing brand for Spotlight. Our role in the project was to build the digital sales and customer service capabilities for the business area. This included building a website and customer portal for Spotlight on Salesforce Experience Cloud delivering the vision for the user experience. 

Working with Columbia Road was a smooth and efficient experience. The developer team was provided with clear specifications on the brand design and required features for our new Salesforce Experience Cloud site. This allowed Columbia Road to work independently, while also being able to proactively design and implement the solutions to convert the designs into a working application.

We built the website on top of Citycon’s first-generation solution, utilising pre-existing functionalities effectively, while also delivering all the modern must-haves such as cookie consent management and embedding social content. Moreover, our team of developers worked as design engineers of sorts, translating static designs and the brand into a great digital leasing journey.

As the date for Spotlight’s launch was set when we began the project, it was crucial to take a dynamic approach to development. Working with exceptionally talented stakeholders and Citycon’s team allowed us to deliver the work efficiently and smoothly.

Impact

Citycon’s Spotlight has quickly become a leader in speciality leasing, and it is being benchmarked globally. Spotlight allows Citycon to find new powerful ways to serve their customers and find new streams of revenue in all corners of the shopping centres.

The team demonstrated not only great technical skills in building modern software applications, but also high competence in converting business requirements into a great user experience and service.
