Sebastian Ramsay joins Columbia Road

Hi Sebastian, How did you get good at what you do?

My journey has been somewhat irregular since I studied law instead of something technical. However, I founded my own company during my law studies, and it required a technical person. Since I couldn’t find this technical person, I decided to be that person myself and learned how to code and started my journey in legal- and fintech. I must attribute my competence to the people I have been surrounded by, be it their knowledge or supportive mindset.

Where have you earned your spurs?

Working in legaltech as a lawyer and a developer as well as working as a backend developer for a fintech company is the hands-on experience that has grown my expertise greatly. I’m used to working in different environments, socialising with different teams and customers, and I enjoy working with and for people as well as motivating others.

Why Columbia Road?

First and foremost the people and their mindset really seemed to match my own. Consulting was also very tempting to me since I am often up and about and love working on different problems, with each project requiring a varying set of skills.

Sebastian is very straightforward and transparent, and he always has a positive, motivating attitude, which makes working with Sebastian easy. His legal expertise, development skills, and background in legaltech and fintech brings a different perspective and experience to the table. This diverse background helps Sebastian with problem solving and dealing with both organisational and technical matters.

What makes your heart beat a little faster?

My heart definitely beats a little faster when either working out at the gym or practising Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I also have a lovely 1.5-year-old dog called Selma who acts as a perfect alarm clock for waking up on time in these remote times. When I’m not doing these things you will probably find me either playing computer games or hanging out with friends.
