Get the bookHi Petra, How did you get good at what you do?
I’ve always been up for new challenges: I’ve never had a clear 5 or 10 year plan, and most likely never will. I have a Master’s degree in marketing and a Bachelor’s degree in communications. After graduating I got into digital marketing and sales, and the little nerd with a business-oriented mindset inside me got spurred right away. Solving technical problems, understanding customer challenges, bringing clarity to complex situations, and helping our customers to shine is the most rewarding job I can imagine at the moment. But I have no clue what I will be doing in 5 or 10 years, and that’s what is exciting!
Where have you earned your spurs?
I’ve earned my expertise by continuing to develop my skills every day. I’ve grown in the midst of the digital transformation: starting as a growth hacker and developing to be a consultant who understands the bigger picture and who is able to bring clarity to complex situations, without loosing the eye for detail. Before joining Columbia Road I worked as a consultant at Avaus. I’ve worked with over 10 companies in the Nordics to help them to develop their digital marketing and sales activities, processes, and ways of working. It’s been really rewarding to get to work with different types of people and organisations: big international corporations, small and medium-sized companies, and public organisations.

I believe that business impact and results should always be at the core of what we do. Technology is important but should be secondary and selected based on business objectives, not the other way around. For me, it is important to be able to share values with the company that I work in, which is why I was happy to join Columbia Road. What makes Columbia Road so special is the culture and the people. What makes your heart beat a little faster?
“Nothing beats the feeling after a heavy and sweaty training session. I tried crossfit for the first time 1.5 years ago, and ever since it’s been my way of balancing life. I enjoy practising new skills such as surfing, handstanding, bouldering, and jumping double-unders. When I was younger I was an active scout for many years. Thanks to my scouting years, I learned many important skills I still utilise in work life such as problem solving, finding new ways of working, and how to work as a team towards a shared goal,” says Petra.
