Emmi NIEMI
Consultant, Martech
Hi Emmi, How did you get good at what you do?
By being curious and saying yes to challenges!
I’ve had the privilege in both my studies and at work to be able to challenge myself in versatile projects and constantly try new things to find what interests me the most and that way find the next steps for my path. Being curious and saying my targets, interests and hopes out loud have led me here, but I have also been constantly surrounded by superior people who have always given their support, shared their knowledge and at the same time encouraged me to go forward.
Why Columbia Road?
I had been following Columbia Road for a few years already, just waiting for a Tampere office to open. Columbia Road has a unique company culture where people are trusted to thrive with their own strengths and tackle the interesting customer projects with result-driven teams filled with versatile knowledge. An opportunity for me to grow as a professional, surrounded by talented and fun people, a definite yes to this new challenge!
What makes your heart beat a little faster?
Watching sports. Yep, I’m the person who first yells in front of the tv to cheer the team or the individual and then cries out of happiness for the winner who has worked so hard for this moment. Also doing sports myself, spending time with my family and friends or using a whole day to master a new recipe and then enjoying the result with good company.
Fanny nyman
Marketing lead, Sweden
Hi Fanny, How did you get good at what you do?
I studied business with marketing as a major, but what taught me most about growth & marketing in practice has been the years I’ve spent working in startups. In my first full-time role I got to experience some real hyper growth going from a small start-up to a global company of 1500 employees. I later spent some time working for a fintech company which also gave me a completely new perspective on growth hacking and the value of community.
I guess the common denominator is that I’ve been lucky enough to work with really talented people in environments where ambitious goals and high ownership has been encouraged.
Why Columbia Road?
I had heard rumours about a uniquely flat company culture with extremely skilled and friendly professionals - which I now can say from experience holds very true. This, in combination with Columbia Road’s position as an interesting up-and-comer agency on the Swedish market sold me. We have a strong reputation among our current clients and are now looking to take the next leap in expanding our awareness & reach - in other words, a super interesting challenge!
What makes your heart beat a little faster?
I’m a foodie at heart so I love any activities related to eating, talking about or making food. My favourite pastime is long dinners with friends and family. I also love discovering new restaurants and hidden gems like bakeries or cute hole-in-the-wall bistros. I try to balance all the food related stuff with activities that literally make my heart beat faster - such as Megaformer pilates and yoga. Love to combine workouts with seeing friends, so it’s not unusual to find me at Barry’s & Brunch on a Saturday.
Jaakko knuutila
Managing Consultant, Martech
Hi Jaakko, How did you get good at what you do?
I’m mainly self-taught. The turning point for me was in 1995 when I first got on the internet. A couple of years later, I made my first website for money and haven’t looked back since.
Studying at Hyper Island was an experience that shaped my views on what I'd like to do when I grow up. I'm still searching for the answer, but if it has something to do with online sales and analytics, it's probably a good fit for me.
Why Columbia Road?
Columbia Road has always been a company I've kept a close eye on. The way the processes and ways of working are presented caught my attention. It's also fun to work with people with different backgrounds and nationalities.
What makes your heart beat a little faster?
Right now, cycling. I love watching the Grand Tours almost as much as cycling as a form of exercise. And you really can't say no to all that data you get to analyze after a ride.
